As you probably already know, there is a wide range of wooden furniture in the marketplace that you can choose from. Hopefully, you will find this simple guide helpful. There are various aspects that you need to consider, and these aspects affect the pricing of the furniture. It is then up to you to strike a balance between what you want and the price. That will lead you to a wise buying decision.

Aspect 1: Outer appearance of the wood furniture.

This is the first aspect to consider because you need to decide in advance the designs that you would prefer to have. Take a look at your existing design and spend some time brain storming for ideas. Ask yourself what type of wood furniture would fit into the existing design. If you need more ideas, you can always refer to home decor magazines to see what is in, and what is out. You may come across some designs that you particularly like. Save up those images for future reference. Once you narrow down the look and feel of the furniture to just a handful of designs, it’s now time to consider the raw materials.

Aspect 2: The type of wood.

This is the second aspect that you must consider. There are so many different types of wood to choose from. In general, they are classified into 2 broad categories – hardwood and softwood. The characteristics of hardwood is that the wood is more durable, and they are generally harder to work with. The only type of hardwood that is relatively easy to work with is teak. For this reason, teak furniture can be more costly than furniture made from other types of wood.

Softwood is easier to work with. You can expect cheaper pricing, but the furniture is much less durable. They tend to rot or become damaged just after a few short years. But the upside is that since they are so easy to work with, you get a wider range of designs.

Each has its own place in the marketplace. The only way to choose, is to be clear about your own preferences, goals, and lifestyle. For example, if you are staying in a rented apartment for about 6 months or so, it makes sense to buy cheaper furniture that is made from softwood.

Aspect 3: Wood finishing.

Most types of wood, when unprocessed, can be vulnerable when exposed to moisture. Mold may grow, and the wood will rot. To protect the furniture, protective layers should be applied to the surface of the wooden furniture (especially for outdoor furniture). Some types of wood like Teak have natural oils that protects the qualities of the wood. In this case, all the furniture needs is a light film of protection for it to last for years.

Aspect 4: Pricing.

This is the final aspect to ponder over. After considering all the above aspects, you should more or less know what exactly you are looking for. Never make a purchase based on price alone. You may end up making a bad buying decision (i.e. furniture that doesn’t fit your needs, wants, and desires). If the type of furniture you are looking for is out of budget, try settling for less branded items. You may even wish to buy wood furniture at wholesale prices for better savings.

Decking can be a great way to improve the exterior of the house but it is important to look after it in order to keep it looking good for many years.

Many people each and every day are spending lots of money renovating their homes and garden areas in order to make them look better than they did before. By making vast improvements it not only adds value to the house, but it also contributes to the atmosphere and the living space too.

One thing that can be great for the home is building a deck area to help to improve every aspect of the home. It adds beauty to the exterior of the home, as well as offering an area that everyone can enjoy.

How to Build a Deck

It can be an exciting time building the deck but it is also important to know what you are doing as well as having any permission if needed to build it.

There are so many great designs out there and if you are ever stuck for inspiration then you can easily look in home improvement magazines or even in the home improvement television programmes. Planning is imperative to ensure that you get a deck that is perfect for you, but without measurements and other careful planning you may end up with undesired results. There are quite a few different uses for the deck whether it is to add something extra to the exterior if it is going to be used for a living area or somewhere to have friends over. Choosing the right style for your situation is very important because it can be frustrating when you install it and it is not what you were expecting.

If you are not confident at building your own deck, you should either find someone who can help or hire a contractor to do it for you. It is always best to get someone who knows what they are doing; otherwise it could become dangerous if not done correctly. Just let the contractors know about your plans and watch them do it correctly and that will give you a peace of mind that you will be getting the exact deck that you want.

Decking and Wood Furniture Care

Looking after the wood for the decking is extremely important and the thing is that a lot of people may not think that it needs any care. Most of the time it will be ok but there are certain things that you can do to make it look good all year round. Water can damage some types of wood for example and so protecting it with either a covering or by using other methods is something that may need consideration.

You can clean dirt off the decking quite easily with acid-free, biodegradable deck cleaner. Also you can use a powerful finish to coat the wood to protect it against mildew and water damage. This can make the wood look horrible and make it expand from the water as well.
